About Eugene

"World's Greatest City for the Arts & Outdoors"

Eugene is situated at the southern end of the Willamette Valley, 110 miles south of Portland. It is the second largest city in Oregon, with the cosmopolitan features common to university towns, yet retains a smalltown feel. Its mild climate, with an average temperature of 53 degrees, makes it an attractive place to live.

Other features of the area include:

  • An excellent school system
  • Proximity to many cultural and higher educational institutions, including the University of Oregon and Lane Community College
  • Recreational opportunities in town - Eugene is known for its huge network of bicycle and running paths
  • Cascade Mountains an hour to the east - hiking, camping, backpacking, kayaking, downhill and cross-country skiing, fishing
  • Oregon Coast and its famous beaches, one hour to the west
  • A thriving music scene, with a large variety of clubs catering to every musical taste, booking excellent local talent on up to nationally-known acts

Eugene may have the world's longest official city slogan - "World's Greatest City for the Arts & Outdoors" - but we think it's true.
